I cannot even begin to describe to you the way my heart swelled up tonight.
This project, "Skirt For A Skirt" it is so much bigger than that.
Than me. Than the wonderful people I had the opportunity to meet tonight.
It's big. Bigger than I could've imagined.
There is a need, a big need. right here.
In my neighborhood.
In my city.
Children who are going without.
Families that are struggling.
But, as big as this need is, the hearts of those volunteering at Northwest Children's Outreach are even
BIGGER.

I was greeted by the sweetest lady, Janet, who gave me all of the details on the organization. She then showed me around the center I was at. The donation pile was gigantic! I loved hearing her talk about NCO, she truly had so much passion for what she was doing. The room was full of people ready to get their hands in and help, bags ready to be filled with things for children in need. Diapers waiting to go to babies who need them. Personal hygiene items ready to go out fulfilling such a basic need.
I loved that Janet gathered everyone together and prayed. Prayed for the children, their parents, for the volunteers and for the social workers that work directly with these families. The joy of The Lord was shining brightly through her. I loved that as all of the people were filling the bags they all had smiles on their face. There were many different ages, all there to do one thing, serve others and give back.
Janet put me in charge of "Presents" she shared with me that many of the families they give to, do not tell their children when their birthdays are because they cant afford to get them a gift.
My heart sank.
Thinking of my own kiddos who just celebrated their 3rd and 1st birthdays.
I cannot even begin to imagine the heartache these parents must feel.
NCO has stepped in for this need.
I was handed a stack of cards with a child's name, age and gender. I got to pick a gift for them from a section of new items/toys. I then got to wrap them up nicely. Now those children will have a gift to open on their birthday! Incredible! It's actually funny she gave me this task because I have always LOVED wrapping presents!

I finished my night filling a bag for a 4 year old little boy.
I probably was the slowest bag filler of all time, but I enjoyed taking my time and really thinking about what I was choosing. A monster truck shirt, High Ho Cherry O the game, a stuffed robot, hot wheels... I prayed for him too as I loaded his goodies in his bag.

Everyone I shared with my heart and idea behind "Skirt For A Skirt" was just as excited about it as I am. When I handed over the first 4 skirts, they were over the moon, and put them right into 4 different girls bags! What a neat surprise those little girls will find, a brand new skirt! This is why purchasing a skirt from Owen&Abi is about so much more than just a skirt. In doing so you are providing something that these little girls would not normally get to enjoy. its a simple thing, a skirt.
But it makes a big difference.
