Last night I told my boy that in the morning we were going to get up early and go and volunteer our time at the Northwest Children's Outreach. I told him it was a place where people bring things to give to other kids that don't have a lot, things like clothes, shoes, books, games and toys. I then told him that since we have so many toys I thought it would be a great idea if he could choose one toy to bring to give away to another little boy. He sat there with his wheels spinning taking in all that I had just said. Then finally with a burst of excitement he said, "This one Mom!" and then he raced over to his toy shelf and pulled out his bright red Harley Davidson motorcycle (the kind that plays sounds and moves on its own) In my mind I immediately thought "not that one... you love that one... you don't quite understand and you're going to cry tomorrow when you have to give it up...) but I felt the Holy Spirit speak quietly to my heart and say, let my boy give. So, I told him, "OK bud, that's the one?" and his sweet little freckled face said "yup!". This morning I arrived to the center to help with one nugget strapped onto my back and the other holding my hand, and in his hand was the red motorcycle. The sweet center leads greeted us and and asked my son if he had brought a motorcycle along to play with. He very seriously looked at them and said: "No, its to give!" my momma heart melted. We had talked about it over and over that it would be another little boy's toy, and that it wouldn't be at our house anymore after he gave it away, but I just thought for sure he would not want to give it up. I'm thankful for the tender heart The Lord has given my son. I'm thankful that volunteering at the center is giving me an opportunity, by God's grace to teach my boy how to love others, how to serve others and how to be generous with what we have. With a smile he ran along with the center lead and found a spot on the toy shelves to put the motorcycle.
Can I just say how amazingly gracious and kind the people at NCO are?! They were so sweet to my kiddos, they gave my son the job of putting away all of the stuffed animals. I could tell in his face and eyes that he felt so grown up, being given a job, by someone other than me. The two hours we were there, I sorted through piles and piles of toys and my kiddos were the "toy testers". They seriously had a BLAST. They played with every toy and didn't make a peep besides, giggles and pressing all of the buttons on the toys that made sounds. I am loving that God has given me a direction to take something that I love, sewing, and getting the chance to do something that glorifies Him. I am even more excited to have been introduced to this organization, these people are incredible. I saw lots of the agency workers coming in this morning to pick up the bags we packed on Tuesday night. They have a heavy job, the need is so great, and the requests from the families for their children can become overwhelming. But these workers are greeted by the most friendly faces at NCO, one of the leads was sharing with me that a few weeks ago she had the opportunity to pray with one of them, how neat is that! I love that they love Jesus. I love that I get to be apart of this. I love that in a couple weeks I get to bring in a stack of skirts, that YOU all helped me donate!! I love knowing that some little girl will get to open her bag and inside will be a NEW skirt! I love this. I love this idea that Jesus has given me. It is amazing doing His work, He is so good... Was thinking about the lyrics to a song I was singing in my car this morning...

Jesus, may I point to YOU in all I do. This skirt thing, it's all about YOU!
