This place is definitely growing on me.
They were closed a couple of Fridays ago for the 4th of July, and then the following Friday my youngest was a bit under the weather so we stayed home. It had been 2 weeks since I had been here to this center.
The building isn't much.
From the outside it looks pretty rough.
It's down and alley way, and the walls display some pretty fine cracks.
It's not fancy, it's not flashy, it doesn't scream "come in!"
But, once you climb the few stairs and walk inside, it is warm.
It is inviting.
The people are kind, and loving with hearts to serve.
Bins line the walls full of clothing separated by male/female then by size 0-3 all the way to teens.
It is a building where a great work is being done.
and you can feel it!
I was so excited to bring my next batch of skirts in.

5 skirts were dropped in the girls 3T bin today.
On Tuesday volunteers will come in the evening to pack up clothing bags.
If there is a need for a girls 3T bag a skirt will be put inside.
But, not just any skirt, a NEW handmade skirt will find its way to a sweet little 3 year old.
I love going to the center to bring the skirts, but I also love to go and jump in and help wherever there is a need.
and believe me, there is always something to do!
It was so neat to sort through bags, and boxes of things people have donated. To fill up the bins and know that these children that are in need of the basic things will get their need fulfilled.

I love that I get to bring my kiddos to do this work.
They both happily run in now like its their home away from home.
Owen loves to try out all of the donated toys.
Today he got to help one of the social workers collect all of the doll house furniture that went with this giant doll house that was going to be given to a little girl.
The social worker was explaining that the girl didn't have any toys and that she was going to be so happy to get to play with this.
I could just see my sons wheels turning as he helped her put all of the pieces in the bag.
I pray for his heart all of the time, that he would be giving and generous.
That he would consider others.
And my Janie girl.
Oh she kept trying to run right out of the front door.
She probably ate a handful of things that were definitely NOT food.

Earlier this week I had a moment where I felt kind of discouraged. I haven't sold too many skirts this past week and I was getting down on myself.
Social media can be hard sometimes, you see a lot of other shops that are selling like crazy and you can start to feel a little defeated.
Today's trip to the center was just what I needed. It reminded me of the purpose of my Etsy shop. The heart behind why I make skirts. It is not just about darling handmade skirts for mamas to purchase for their little ones, it is about giving back. Giving another sweet little skirt to a girl who might not have the opportunity to have one. I wish you all could come with me to the center. I wish you could come pack clothing bags, sort toys, fold blankets and put away shoes. I wish you could meet the people I have met. The center leads, they are truly amazing people. They are passionate about what they are doing. I wish you could say hello to the social workers that come every Friday to pick up the bags of things to deliver to these children.
I wish for this, but a piece of you goes there when you purchase a skirt.
A bit of your heart to give, and to love goes along with the skirt when it is donated to that little girl
You are apart of this journey with me.
Thank you!
